I have never bought a car, dishwasher, washer/dryer, or any major purchase without checking consumer report's ratings. It's absolutely essential.

Although some people complain that their reviews focus too much on the "best value," I've always found them to be right on the money. I would never buy a used car without checking if that model year has had any problems. I like how the reviews are totally unbiased and not influenced by advertising or anything else.
